I have a bleeding disorder – can I have acupuncture?

Patients with bleeding disorders such as haemophilia (where the blood is unable to clot) may not be able to have acupuncture. If you take medicine to prevent blood clots, you must speak to your GP before you have acupuncture.

I am pregnant – can I have acupuncture?

It is generally safe to have acupuncture when you are pregnant, however, you must let your acupuncturist know if you are pregnant as certain points cannot be used safely during pregnancy.

Does it hurt?

The needles can feel like a tiny scratch and then it settles Once sited the area may have an achy sensation that persists but it rarely hurts. If it hurts I do remove the needle and may reposition it.

How long will acupuncture take to work?

Usually this takes 2-4 sessions to feel benefit and more to create a longer lasting effect. Complex conditions may need longer.

Can it help with anxiety or stress?

Yes, it has been found to ease anxiety, nervous tension and help sleep.

Can micro-needling help with acne scarring?

Yes, this has been shown to reduce the severity of the scars and as a result improve confidence and overall appearance.

Can you treat stretch marks?

Yes. Like scarring this can benefit from micro-needling therapy

Does acupuncture help weight loss?

Yes, however this can vary from person to person and depends also on lifestyle changes.

I have cellulite, can this be treated?

Yes it can – with micro-needling. The needles are longer and 6 consecutive fortnightly sessions are usually needed.

Will it help me stop smoking?

Yes it can, and it does depend on your readiness too. I use the well-known NADA auricular [ear] points.
